i'm marianne rafferty in new york. tornado watches and warnings canceled. reports of major damage in hattiesburg. the governor has signed a state of emergency for the area. we know at least 20 people are

injured. on the phone is jeff brent the spokesperson for the mississippi emergency management agency. what can you tell us? what is happening there right now? seems that you will probably have to wait until daylight to get a true picture of the damage. >> we are facing a couple of situations. any area that was impacted by the tornado that went through the area is without power. dark of course, reit now and especially without power to lend assistance to the first responders in the area to continue the search and rescue operations makes it more challenging. additionally you can see on the radar there is still heavy rainfall falling throughout the area and very strong thunderstorms we are watching right now is moving through maryan into lamar county and expected to move towards or are to the south of the hattiesburg area. they are not over yet. flash flooding still a concern because of the storms falling over the same areas over and over and over for the past several hours. we go to get through this and

we will get on with surveying the damages tomorrow. >> we heard earlier there were search and rescue operations underway and now talking about the other weather moving in in addition to so much power being knocked out. are firefighters and rescuers still out trying to see if it there is any one in need of help? >> absolutely. these are dedicated men and women who do this job every day and making sure that everybody out there who needs assistance has it. they have been going door to door in the impacted areas and those operations are still underway in the most heavily impacted areas around the hat hattiesburg area right now. safety is a primary concern and we want to mix sure that all of the first responders are safe but those operations will continue into the night and in other counties, too. you know, forest county was not the only county which was impacted. we have about 7 counties so far that reported damages. >> and we were talking about this earlier first there were few minor injuries, three minor

injuries reported and now there are are more than that. what can you tell us about that? >> right now it is more than 20 and we think that number could probably grow quite a bit as the reports continue to funnel that the state emergency operations center and at least two critical critical injuriesf lamar county from people who were injured as the storm rolled through early on this evening in the 5:00 hour. these numbers are very fluid which means we expect them to change almost hourly as we get more and more reports in. probably won't have a good hard figure for the next day or so as the emergency managers can finally get back to their office and sit down and compile all of the figures for us. >> we were also hearing right after there was a ton of debris littering the roads and the campus of the university of southern, mississippi, received a lot of damage. what can you tell us about the damage there and also we heard that the students actually aren't there because they were off for mardi gras. >> very fortunate that they are

off for mardi gras break right now. we are not scheduled to return back to campus until wednesday as i understand it. parts of the campus damaged heavily from what i have seen in the media reports. my office is about an hour and a half, almost two hours away from where the university of southern, mississippi is located in hattiesburg but we have a number of our own personnel on the ground who have su surveyed it first handd the damages are quite extensive and they will have their work cut out for them in the next 48 hours as they really try to get a handle on this and do the damage surveys not only on the campus but in all of the affected counties. >> we will be watching and talking to you again. thank you so much for being with us. the tornado watches and warnings have all expired in hattiesburg, mississippi war tornado tore through the town earlier on sunday evening. there are reports of major damage. also, at least 20 people are injured at this point. but this is an ongoing situation and we will certainly keep you informed as to what is

country music? can we talk about my segment which is colleges. they are leaving their grad students with overwhelming debt. one school in central michigan has an interesting plan. starting this fall, spring arbor university will assist in paying off student loans if the students can't find a well paying job when they graduate. three universities elsewhere are doing otherwise. george washington university, yale, and penn have all started suing their grads who can't pay up for the loans they gave them, so very different approaches. i like this story. this is free market competition. if you're a parent and you're going to pay for your kids to go to school, you would look at this and say wait, they're going to pony up if they can't get a job? i would like to send my kid to that school. >> for a change, the school is accountable. instead of raising tuition over and over and over, and by the way, the reason why tuition is skyrocketing is because colleges realize there's so much money

out there. the availability of student loans is so easy, they know they cab keep jacking it up, jacking it up. we have a trillion dollars in student loan default. the colleges could start getting a little accountability, sounds great. same thing. caused by the same thing. cheap loans, too easy loans, easy money that shouldn't have gone to people who didn't deserve it and couldn't afford it. >> exaaspirated by people who can't find a job. law schools, actually, this is a problem with too many people. do you think that will start a trend. >> that people shouldn't go to law school. >> or a law school will make sure if you don't find a job after going to our law school, we'll pay you back? >> i think if you're a large law
